Warsaw aims to become aviation hub for Kazakhstanis

Polish flag carrier LOT Polish Airlines has commenced direct, scheduled passenger flights on the Warsaw (WAW) – Almaty (ALA) route. The inaugural flight to Kazakhstan’s largest metropolis took place on May 31.

This marks the second destination in Central Asia’s largest economy for the Polish national carrier. Flights will be operated using Boeing 737MAX-8 narrowbody aircraft, with a frequency of 4 weekly flights during the summer schedule and 3 weekly flights in the winter. The westbound flight time from Warsaw to Almaty is approximately 6.5 hours, while the return leg takes about an hour longer.

The launch of this route allows LOT to strengthen its presence in the Central Asian region and offer Kazakhstani passengers convenient connections in Warsaw. The new service will provide the Kazakh market with access to the Polish flagship’s European and North American network via its primary transit hub.

According to the Civil Aviation Committee of Kazakhstan, the aviation authorities of both nations have already reached an agreement to open a third route in the future, connecting Warsaw and Atyrau, known as oil capital of Kazakhstan.
