Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) has expanded its fleet with the delivery of another European-built next-generation narrowbody aircraft, an Airbus A321neo. This marks the carrier’s second A321neo and its fifth new-generation aircraft delivery since the beginning of the year. AZAL expects to take delivery of two additional A321neos by the end of 2026.

With this latest integration, the Azerbaijani flag carrier’s total A320neo family sub-fleet reaches 10 aircraft, comprising eight A320neos and two A321neos.

Ferrying directly from Airbus’s Hamburg manufacturing facility, the aircraft (MSN 13267, registered VP-BTN) is powered by CFM International LEAP-1A32 engines. The airliner is configured in a two-class layout seating 156 passengers—12 in business class and 144 in economy. It features Airbus’s Airspace cabin design, equipped with XL overhead bins, high-speed Wi-Fi, and individual in-flight entertainment (IFE) screens in the business class cabin.

AZAL stated that the additional A321neo will allow the airline to scale up seat capacity, increase passenger traffic, and boost overall operational efficiency across its network.

The phased fleet modernization supports the carrier’s long-term strategy to replace legacy aircraft with modern, fuel-efficient models while expanding its route network.

By 2032, Azerbaijan Airlines aims to expand its total fleet to 50 aircraft.
