LCC Wizz Air to base fifth aircraft in Georgia
European budget carrier remains the leading airline in the South Caucasus country
The European low-cost carrier Wizz Air will base a fifth aircraft in Georgia. This was announced by József Váradi, CEO of the Hungarian budget airline during his recent visit to this South Caucasus country.
The airline has been operating in Georgia for 12 years and currently bases four aircraft at Kutaisi International Airport (KUT), offering flights to 23 destinations in 15 countries.
According to the local media outlet Business Media, Wizz Air carried over 1.2 million passengers on flights to and from Georgia in the first ten months of 2024, more than any other airline in the local market. This represents a 19.1% of the nation’s total passenger traffic.
Turkish Airlines ranked second with 7.6% (481,000 passengers), while local Georgian Airways came in third with 7.5% (474,000 passengers).
