Kazakhstan’s flag carrier Air Astana is launching direct scheduled flights on two new routes to Oman: Almaty–Salalah (from 23 October) and Astana–Salalah (from 24 October). The full-service airliner will operate both routes weekly utilizing Airbus A320 narrowbody aircraft in a two-class configuration.

Since 2023, flights between Oman and Kazakhstan have been operated by Omani low-cost carrier SalamAir on the Almaty–Muscat route. Seasonal service is performed twice weekly, also using aircraft of the A320 family.

The launch of the new routes was announced several days after the state visit of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman to the Republic of Kazakhstan. During the visit, an Air Services Agreement was signed, strengthening the legal and contractual framework for cooperation in civil aviation and creating additional opportunities for the further development of air services between the two countries. Air Astana had planned to launch services to the Sultanate at the start of this year’s summer scheduling season.

According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport, the launch of the new flights is expected to contribute to the development of trade, economic, business and tourism cooperation between Kazakhstan and Oman.

As part of its Central Asia expansion program, Oman Air, Sultanate’s national carrier, launched scheduled services to neighbouring Uzbekistan this summer.
