Wizz Air Expands Yerevan Base to Four A321s, Adds Three New European Routes

Eastern European low-cost carrier Wizz Air is deepening its commitment to Armenia, announcing plans to increase its based fleet at Yerevan’s Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) to four Airbus A321 aircraft. The expansion will support three new European destinations, bringing the ultra-LCC’s total network from the Armenian capital to 21 routes across 14 countries.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Wizz Air Chief Commercial Officer Jan Malin detailed the carrier’s upcoming network additions. Service to Basel (BSL/MLH) will launch on December 18 operating three times weekly, followed by Valencia (VLC) on December 19 with two weekly flights. A third route connecting Yerevan to Varna (VAR) is scheduled to open on June 6, 2027, also operating twice weekly.

To support the expanded flight schedule, Wizz Air will phase in two additional Airbus A321s at EVN.  Following up on previously announced plans to station a third aircraft at Zvartnots this October, the airline revealed that a fourth based A321 will arrive in December. Beyond launching new destinations, the incremental capacity will allow the airline to bolster frequencies on existing routes, increasing Memmingen service to four flights per week and Prague to five.

The aggressive growth places Wizz Air in sharper competition with local hybrid carrier FlyOne Armenia, which has been rapidly scaling its own regional and European route network out of EVN. Since opening its Zvartnots base in October 2025, Wizz Air has built rapid momentum, projecting it will transport approximately 1 million passengers in the Armenian market by the end of the year.
