Specialist with international experience to lead Armenian civil aviation
Gevorg Torosyan previously advised various international projects
Gevorg Torosyan, a specialist with extensive international experience, has been appointed as the new Chairman of Armenia’s Civil Aviation Committee. The decree on his appointment was published on the official website of the South Caucasian republic’s government on October 12.
Prior to this appointment, Torosyan spent nearly three years as Director, Program Evaluation and Economic Research at Integra Government Services International, a US-based consulting firm. Earlier in his career, he also participated in various reform and development programs conducted by US agencies and international institutions across Armenia and Central Asian countries.
“I am eager to work with the committee’s team and our partners to strengthen aviation safety, support effective regulation, and improve Armenia’s connections with the world,” Torosyan wrote on his social media account.
The choice of such a candidate to head the primary commercial aviation regulator appears to be no coincidence. Armenian airlines are still unable to fly to EU countries, as they remain on the EU air safety list due to non-compliance with aviation safety standards. Previously, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan were removed from this list.
