Azeri flag carrier reports modest 3% passenger growth in 2025

In 2025, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) carried 4.16 million passengers, according to a statement on the website of Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Passenger traffic grew by 3% compared to the previous year. For comparison, in 2024, the Azeri flag carrier managed to increase its passenger numbers by nearly 40%.

International flights accounted for 79% of all traffic, serving 3.4 million passengers in 2025 (+3% year-on-year). Azerbaijan Airlines’ most popular international destinations were Istanbul, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Tbilisi, and Dubai.

On the busiest domestic route, Baku–Nakhchivan, the carrier transported 735,000 people. AZAL also operates regular domestic flights from the capital to the city of Fuzuli.

In total, the Azerbaijani carrier operated flights to 53 scheduled destinations last year. The passenger load factor stood at 80%.

During the year, the airline received two new Airbus A320neo narrowbody jets, bringing its total fleet to 27 aircraft. In addition to the A320ceo and neo family aircraft, the carrier operates Embraer E190 regional jets as well as Boeing 767-300 and 787-8 widebody airliners.
